VIEW DETAILWelcome to Punakaiki, a unique landscape of natural wonders on New Zealand South Island’s rugged West Coast and we offer an eclectic mix of accommodation in Punakaiki.
You can experience for yourself the iconic Pancake Rocks and blowholes, the top-rated natural wonder by the wild Tasman Sea.
But there’s more to discover. The road between Westport and Greymouth is regarded as one of the most dramatic coastal roads in the world. While inland, there’s more limestone formations and caves, lush rainforest, hiking trails and gentle walks.
Whether you are on your way from Nelson or Picton to the glaciers or Christchurch, Punakaiki is the place to linger to connect with Nature and appreciate the wild vistas.
Secluded, stylish accommodation by the Pancake Rocks
Hydrangea Cottages is the perfect place to rest and relax on your holiday. Offering secluded, spacious and stylish accommodation within sight of New Zealand’s spectacular Pancake Rocks, Hydrangea Cottages provides comfort, convenience and a quintessential Kiwi touch for discerning travellers who can enjoy coastal views, on-site limestone formations, native birdsong, and the sound of the sea to lull you to sleep at night. Situated on an elevated terrace overlooking the Tasman Sea, and surrounded by the Paparoa National Park, each of the six cottages is unique in its design and orientation. With options from studio units for solo guests or couples, to multiple-room family houses for up to 10 people, Hydrangea Cottages offers a range of accommodation to enable you to rest and replenish. A deserted wild surf beach is just a short walk away down the driveway, and the Pancake Rocks are 600m away - easily walkable.
Stay a day or more
As the Pancake Rocks and blowholes are powered by the tide, it is worth staying at least one night in Punakaiki so you can witness the natural phenomena at different times of the tidal cycle. With half and full day walking tracks in the adjoining Paparoa National Park, including New Zealand’s latest Great Walk, you won’t regret staying longer in Punakaiki. Guided horse treks up the forested limestone cliff valley finishing on the Punakaiki beach are available, for many the highlight of their Punakaiki experience. We can offer parking for self contained vehicles when space available $50.00 per vehicle with sea views.
We look forward to welcoming you to this special part of the world, a sub-tropical paradise that is good for your body, mind and spirit.
We can offer secure vehicle storage if you are staying with us while walking the Paparoa Great walk - please inquire.
